Mr Andar Nubowo is graduated master in social sciences from École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) Paris in France in 2008 and is also a lecturer at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta in Indonesia. From 2017-2019, he had been an Associate Research Fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He has recently published a number of commentaries published by RSIS on Indonesian Islam, politics, and elections such as, “Muhammadiyah: the Rising Challenge of Conservatism” (2018), “Jokowi’s Soft Diplomacy: Global Islamic Network of Moderation” (2018), “Grand Narratives in Outer Provinces: Impact of Islam in Politics (2019), “The Three Streams Facing Indonesian Muslims: Pulls of Politics” (2019), and some commentaries and articles published by East. He is a co-author of a working paper with Prof Leonard C. Sebastian, “The ‘Conservative Turn’ in Indonesian Islam: Implications for the 2019 Presidential Elections” (IFRI Paris France, 2019). His main interest is on Indonesian Islam, politics and democracy, history of Indonesian Muslim intellectuals and the network of Islamic moderation.
